I was trying to record some videos off of my monitor using a Canon Vixia HV30. The monitor
    is an Apple 30 inch.

WHen I download them, it looks like the footage is being seen through a burlap grid. Is this the pixel
array of the monitor? Could this have something to do with the field dominance? Can anyone explain why the vid looks fine on YouTube but when I tape it it has a soft grid on it. Sometimes the grid softens and disappears for a second, then it comes back.

    ??

Maybe a can just blur it one pixel in After Effects?

    Many thanks,

    Richard

Yes, that’s the pixel grid of the monitor. Yes, a slight blur in AE will help out.

But you’ll get better results by downloading the video from YouTube (not shooting it off the screen) and then converting it for use in FCP. I don’t have the names of the programs that will do the downloading but I’ve done it before and a Google search will get you what you need.

Alternatively, if you want the best quality you can do what I’ve done in the past: Contact the YouTube poster and offer a nominal amount for a direct dub of the footage.

    Hi Ron,

    Thank you!

My son told me about http://www.vixy.net but I couldn’t get the “online version” to work. But there is
a download beta which seems to be working just great now… except after about three downloads it seizes up and I have to relaunch it.

    Thanks for responding!!!

if you go to Zamzar.com you can enter the url for the youtube video and they will encode it and send you a link to download from.
