record and playback simultaneously
I need a simple way to make a video recording of a viewer’s reaction to a video that they are being shown.
The best method I have come up with so far is to playback the video with VLC, whilst at the same time recording the viewer on the Macbook’s built-in camera via Quicktime player. The two videos will then be edited together in FCP, with the ‘reaction’ video overlaid in the corner of the other video.
The main issue with this method is that the two videos have to be manually synced. I have to do a lot of these recordings, and i want to minimise the post production time. So I am looking for a way to simultaneously trigger recording and playback.
I’m not sure that FCP is the best tool for this, but I wasn’t sure where else to post the question 🙂

Sounds like a job for Automater…it’s built into your Mac’s OS. read up on it and write the script needed. a double click on the resultant icon should get everything started at once.
