Reconnecting media in ProRes sequence with H.264 files
I have some footage shot with a DSLR camera that records quicktime files in h.264 format. I converted them to prores, edited my project in FCP7, and converted the exported prores file back to h.264.
I don’t have that exported file or the prores footage anymore and I want to create another h.264 file of the project but I’m not sure if I need to convert the original footage to prores again. Is it okay if I just reconnect the media with the original h.264 files or do I need to convert those files to prores again?
My thinking is that I should be able to just reconnect with the h.264 files and export the project, and even maybe have slightly better quality since I’m saving a step on converting. Is there a flaw in this thinking?
If it is okay to reconnect the media with the h.264 files, are there any advantages or disadvantages to this? Thanks.
