  • Reconnecting media based on timecode alone with different files

So I’m in a less than ideal situation regarding an offline edit and need some assistance.

Someone did an offline edit for me on HDV footage using Final Cut Express. I have the digitized footage on my system but his cut is based off of a new digitization that he did. This means the files aren’t the same. They’re not even named the same. The only thing that is valid as far as the cut is concerned is the timecode.

So the project opens up fine in FCP 6 but reconnecting would seem to not work as the reconnect is based on file names. Does anyone know of a way to reconnect based on the timecode and nothing else? It sounds like a situation where I’m going to have to look at the timecode of each cut and manually assemble. I think this is possible to do – although very time consuming.

Bad situation – I know, I know. Let me know if anyone has ever worked on something like this. Thanks.
