    Hey Everyone,
I’m working with ProRes Proxy files on a feature documentary. We are beginning the process of moving the project to a different editing studio and want to make sure all the media in the project will easily relink to the external hard drives we have. Currently, we have all the media on internal drives and used those to cut the video.
I made all of the relevant media offline and connected the external drive so I could reconnect. Some of the media connected, some of it wasn’t there, and the rest of it IS there but it won’t reconnect. I bring up Reconnect Media and it finds the file but doesn’t put it in the lower queue to actually connect it. It disappears and the file remains offline. What’s going on???
    Thanks,
    Holly

    Holly,

The only foolproof method of moving a project employs Media Manager’s copy routine.

You select just the sequence(s) you really need, and/or any bins in the FCP browser, and you direct Media Manager to copy only the media and renders in those items to an external drive. MM creates a directory on the external drive, copies only what’s needed to that directory, and creates a new project file as well, which it also places on the external drive. The process keeps everything connected, with no need to relink even a single file.

This is truly how transporting a project to another facility is meant to be accomplished seamlessly with FCP.

How did you copy the material?
