Reconnect dialog box loses focus, causes lock-up: what to do?
I’ve had this problem a few times. Rather than explain it in my own words, I’ll quote from an Apple Support thread where others had this issue:
“Open a project with disconnected files. Answer Reconnect..
Hit that search button and immediately command-tab to another application //while it is searching//. Anything will do…. stay there until it finds something.
Command-tab or click back to FCP. Either way, “Reconnect” disappears and the “Reconnect Files” window pops to the front. And you can’t click or close either one of them.”
In the discussion, no one came up with a solution. Has anyone here had this issue, and if so, how can you solve it? I’m about to force-quit FCP (thankfully everything was saved!), but I’d love to know the fix for next time.
Obviously, the real fix is never to switch focus while the search is happening–but in case I forget, what can I do to remedy the problem once it’s happened?

I’ve had the same problem and the only solution I’ve come upon is NOT to multitask when doing this particular operation.
It’s like the old joke-
Patient: Hey doc, it hurts when I do this.
Doc: Then stop doing that!
