[Ron Whitaker] “Now, if I just want to have a plain, simple DVD, no menus, just the audio and video on the DVD so that when I insert the DVD into the player, it simply plays.

    How do I do that?”

Try the menu item: Tools | Burn Disc | DVD… That’s all you need to do and it will burn a DVD right from the Vegas Pro timeline with all the correct rendering options so that it plays when you put it in a player.

    John:

I did that and it worked!

My question is, the original footage on the timeline was 29.970fps progressive. But when I burned to DVD from the timeline from the Tools menu, the option it gave for DVD was 60i. Why is that?

Can you only burn progressive to Blu-Ray?

Because DVD’s only support 60i, 50i, and 24p. That’s it. That’s all there was back in 1995 when DVD’s were invented so that’s all you get 20 years later.

You can always burn 24p on either Blu-ray or DVD. Blu-ray may support newer formats because it’s design allows for updates to it’s capabilities.

    Blu-ray currently supports 60i, 50i, 24p, 50p, & 60p. It still doesn’t support 30p.

Yea, this is a really important point that lots of people don’t realize. We get a lot of questions about why they can’t render to DVD with 60p from their shiny new camera and they don’t realize that DVD’s are 20 year old technology that can’t support 60p and other new frame rates.
