  • Receiving error when trying to render

Posted by Ron Whitaker on December 28, 2014 at 2:16 am

I have a video on the timeline in mp4 format and I want to render it to MPEG-2 so that I can put it on a DVD.

I’m just trying to render the video right now. When I click the Render button, I receive the error “An error occurred while creating the media file . The reason for the error could not be determined.”

I’m using SVP 13, Build 428. The original .MP4 footage on the timeline is 1920×1080, 29.970 progressive.

In the Render As dialog box, I have the following settings:

    Output type: MPEG-2
    Width: 1920
    Height: 1080
    Frame rate: 29.970
    Aspect ratio: 16:9

Any ideas why this would occur?

    Thank you.

Curious to know if you get the same error message if you try rendering
    out in another format?

Much the same as Steve, but:-

1] What are you rendering from? Exactly what is inside that MP4

2] Have you done this exact same workflow before?

3] Do you have GPU acceleration switched on?

4] How much DISC space do you have available to that disc you are rendering to?

    5) Do try a DVD Burn to a RW directly FROM your Project Timeline.

Hmm, I’m not sure you can set your render resolution at 1080 for a DVD (720×480)

I’ve had some of these problems in the past and found our something had gone wrong with the video I was trying to render. My solution was to render short portions throughout until it came to the portion where it messed up and wouldn’t render. Then I’ve either replaced or tried to fix that spot.

Also had issues with rendering where nothing was seemingly wrong with the video to be rendered but the only way I could render it was to again render it in small sections, then put those sections back on the timeline for a full length render.

Doug, you’re spot on! Now, somewhere within the DVD Format will block any increase above the DVD limits. You’ve found it!

    Steve:

No. I just rendered out a project a couple of weeks ago. It was a project I shot and edited and I rendered it out to .MP4 format for the web. It worked fine.

I also tried bringing in a whole new video and rendering it out to MPEG-2 format and I received the same error.

    That’s it!

    Thanks for your reply, Doug!

I changed the size in the Project Properties to 720×480 and then simply chose the NTSC 720×480 template in the Render As dialog box and it rendered!

    Thanks.

Now, why is that? Is it just a limitation, kinda like the you-shouldn’t-go-over 8,000,000 CBR?

Now my question is, I need to render out the audio. I think the preferable format is AC-3? I need to render it with the same name as the video, correct?

Now, all I want is to burn the video and audio on a DVD. Simple. No menus. I just want to put the DVD in a player and press Play and have it play.

What’s the best and simplest way to accomplish that?

[Ron Whitaker] “Now, why is that? Is it just a limitation, kinda like the you-shouldn’t-go-over 8,000,000 CBR?”No, it’s the resolution. I can go up to 9mbs.

It is a limit within the DVD standard for a playable DVD.

    Thanks.

Now, if I just want to have a plain, simple DVD, no menus, just the audio and video on the DVD so that when I insert the DVD into the player, it simply plays.

    How do I do that?
