I’ve worked with hundreds of smaller drives over years of editing, but now I wanted to ask my friends at COW if they could recommend a 3-10 TB hard-drive setup that I don’t have to build, can keep near/on my editing desk, and not spend a fortune on.

Preferably one that is fast where I can drag larger video projects on and off on the fly. I look forward to and appreciate your responses!

    Hi John,

“fortune” is a relative term but one thing that comes to mind that might do the job for you is the product lineup that Drobo offers. Have a look at https://www.drobo.com

Alternatives are LaCie’s and G-Tech’s product lineups.

Thanks. Looking into G Technology G-Drive and Mercury, any experience with or thoughts on those?

Hi John, not much to say about the G-Tech drives, they just work. Connections (plugs) are solid and all around good quality. Don’t think you can go wrong with any of those especially with the 3 year warranty they give. The disks inside are Hitachi and I’ve not had a single Hitachi break on me yet. I’ve had several Western Digital external ones go bad on me (no internal ones though) and a couple Seagate (both internal and external) but always lucky with Hitachi.
