  • Recapturing portion of clips.

I have a question. I digitized a long interview and edited out a majority of it into soundbites. Now I realize that I didn’t capture the correct audio channel. I want to know if there is a way to recapture JUST the small clips so the media replaces my current clips in the timeline. I do not want to have to recapture the entire tape. I tried to create independent clips and change the overall media length to reflect the small portion of the interview I would like to recapture. Smart idea right? Wrong…I can not create a independent clip because I nested the sequence so I could use the time code burn I made for the client so they could pick out the segments to be used.

Is there anyway to select or change small clips chopped out of a bigger captured clip to allow capture of only the portion of the clip being used in the timeline? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

You can use the Media Manager to recapture only the clips in your timeline.

I tried that but Final Cut still wanted to capture the entire Clip. Is this because it is a nested sequence?
Can you explain step by step how to go about using the media manager to accomplish this? Maybe I’m messing up a step. I use Final Cut Pro 5

CNTRL + Click on the Sequnce Icon and “Make Sequence Clips Independent”.

I’ve discovered Nested sequences can’t easily recapture partial clips using Media Manager. It brings up alot of issues…but the short version of the story is don’t use nested sequences with the intention of recapturing small clips. In my case it probably is possible but it involves alot of extra leg work so try to avoid it if you can. It’s quicker and easier to use the sequence the nested sequence references to rather than use the nested sequence. Make sense? Maybe not, this question and answer is overly confusing, but thanks for everyone’s help!
