Uh, where to begin. First off, I wouldn’t even know how to search for a pre-existing topic on this subject so forgive me if it’s been covered.

This requires some backstory: two years ago, I made a short for a 48 hour film festival. Now I am putting together a DVD of all my shorts. The original footage was lost when a hard drive crashed and one of the three source tapes (raw footage) was accidentally damaged beyond repair a year ago. So I obtained the original submitted miniDV (finished project) from the festival.

My plan was to capture the miniDV, export it to mpeg2 for DVD Architect and be done with it. Of course, things get more complicated than that.

I captured the miniDV and put the clip on a timeline in Vegas. Previewing it, there were obvious problems (interlace, wrong frame rate, etc.)

The movie was shot on a DVX100b in 24p (or 24p Advanced). It would have been exported at 23.976 with a Field order of Progressive in Vegas.

The captured clip has the frame rate as 29.970 with a Field order of ‘Lower field first’. I tried setting the properties in Vegas to match these new properties but there are still obvious examples of unmatched frame rate and interlace issues.

Hopefully it’ll be obvious to one of you what my problem is. Thanks for reading all of that and thanks in advance for aiding.
