Recalling an old Avid Bin (2004)
Posted by Laura Young on July 29, 2013 at 8:23 pmDoes anyone have a suggestion on how to recover data from an old Avid bin circa 2003?
I have no idea which version of Syphony I was running at the time – maybe Version wish,
but I can’t open the bin now in my Syphony 6.5.2.
Any suggestions on a work around to recover the data?
Thanks.

July 29, 2013 at 8:43 pmAre you sure the bin file is not corrupt? Is it an .avs extension? I know of people who have opened bins from the original Media Comoser v4 in the mid 90’s with recent software.

July 29, 2013 at 9:42 pmI have other projects from that era, so I will try another bin from another Project and see what happens.
It is an avs btw
Thanks!

July 30, 2013 at 8:05 am.avs isnt a bin it’s a settings file. If it was from a PC you need an .avb if it was froma Mac Iit may have no extension so adf .avb on the wnd and try.
Avp is project file
Avs is settings
Avb is binPat Horridge

August 2, 2013 at 10:50 amThanks Michael,
It seems it was a corrupt avb, in fact almost every bin in the Project was corrupt except for 1
which by luck had a copy of my Master Edit list in it.
But yes, a bunch of other projects from 10 years ago all opened easily.
I guess this is a lesson in checking ones Archive to confirm that the copy was properly made
before putting it on the shelf, and also the lesson that no Project is every really finished…there’s always
another version out there!
