  • realtime capture using FCP – do i need P2?

Posted by James Lee on September 7, 2006 at 6:13 pm

is there a way to capture now on to FCP/laptop without having a P2 in the slot? currently I have 1 8gig P2 and when I capture now to FCP, it records to the P2 at the same time. at 8 min, the P2 shows that it is full but the capture continues on FCP. If there’s a way to ONLY capture through FW port/FCP so that i can have a fresh P2 ready to go if i needed?
    thanks,
    James

Yes- you can always capture the live camera feed over Firewire to FCP at any time whethere there is a P2 loaded or not.

[leejam99] “nothing happens when i press record.”

WEll, yeah, that’s because there’s nothing to record to. It’s like pressing record without a tape in the deck, nothing happens.

You just go into log and capture, select 720p or 1080i DVCPRO HD presets and then select non-controllable device because timecode will not get a cue and hit Capture Now. You cannot control FCP from the camera.
