I’m running a 3.0GHZ 8 core mac pro, and I just completed a project that was 1080i ProRes HQ. We need to make a SD version to our post house to get output to digibeta. I dropped a self contained HD quicktime movie into an SD ProResHQ timeline and when I render it’s taking an hour to do a 30second chunk. When I drop this same 30 seconds into compressor it takes a minute and a half when using the virtual cluster on my machine. I know the virtual cluster will use the processors more efficiently, but this is a major difference in time. Any idea why Final Cut is taking so long to do this simple format conversion render? Thanks in advance.

    Matt,

FCP, because its optimized for displaying video rather than simply exporting video, is both rendering and exporting, a two step process….
