Reading timecode data from an audio track

Premiere Pro only reads timecode from BWF files. It cannot read SMPTE audio timecode.

You’re looking at a tool like auxTC that will read audio timecode then convert/embed it into a Quicktime TC track (maybe someone else can chime in to confirm 100% that PPro reads a Quicktime with embedded timecode, I don’t have a file to test at the moment).

Another tool is Plural Eyes which matches up two-system audio based on the audio fingerprint itself. If the audio quality is decent from both systems I’ve used it to 100% accuracy. I’ve also seen it used on the last feature I worked on so it’s relatively common in the industry. My big tip is that you need to sync your scenes before you edit. It will also sync additional cameras based on audio for multicam edits.

Thanks for the reply, yes I have been looking into auxTC plugin and that seems the best solution to get the timecode from the audio and put into the Quicktime as timecode. I will have to test with doing this and Premeire pro readingthe timecode from the Quicktime video file.

I would rather use the Timecode to sync from the camera and audio recorder, Dualeyes is very slow as I have been testing it for the past few months. Even with good sound levels in camera and the recorder it took hours scanning the audio files and half the time in failed or synched 1 clip only.

if the aux time code could somehow be exposed as an audio track, couldn’t the new tools in cs5 be used to sync then?
