I just got a project that is from a Japanese artist that I need to clean up and re-animate some files. I am getting an error on loading the AE 6.5 project. It says: After Effects error: conversion from unicode failed for a file or directory (3 $ 160). Any knowledge on how to get the japanese characters to recognize on the system?

    Thanks

Are you on windows? If so you may need to install support for east asian languages through control panel>regional and language options>languages tab.

Even on a mac you’ll still need to turn on regional language and install a kanji font

hey, i’m running CS3 on the same OS (10.4) and i’m having the same problem.

however, i’m not asking questions about japanese text (i’m american) does anybody know if i still have to mess with japanese fonts to get this to work properly?
    thank you
