    Hey Guys,

A client put me on notice today that he might have job for us to do subtitles on his 23 minutes master. He normally uses an in-house supplier to do this with, but that person is away.

The titles will be your standard white text on a black bar “burned” into the video – so no need to take it off or hide it – only to be able to master it out to tape afterwards.

I know that back in 2007 that TitleFactory was mentioned on this forum as one good package to use – is this still the case and is there any other recommendations with regards to doing this work in PPro CS4? Such as a plugin etc?

    Thanks

Subtitles created in “subtitling software” such as TitleFactory are meant to be used in DVDs. Adobe Encore, for example, accepts these type of timecoded text files, and imports them as subtitle tracks. But they can’t be imported in Premiere (as far as I know).

If you need those on tape, you may be better off using standard titles on one of the video tracks that can be turned off. Not sure how long the video is, but don’t be afraid to quote high, this type of work is a real pain… especially if we are talking foreign language, I would honestly sub it out.

    Hey Vince,

Thank you very much for the excellent feedback. And yes, you’re absolutely correct in the pain and trouble involved. However, it is a good client and they are stuck, so I’ll step up and help them.

I am expecting to get a transcribed script and the language we are subtitling is English – so lets wait and see.
