Re-installed Vegas Pro 8.0 and can’t run AVI files?
Hey there, I’m trying to fix a problem I’m having with Sony Vegas Pro 8.0. I had Sony Vegas for about 5 years on my old computer. (Windows Vista) and it ran AVI files with no problem. Yesterday I got a new computer (Windows 8) and installed Pro 8.0 on it, only to find it can’t run AVI files. I can import them and place them on the timeline, but it only imports the audio. I tried loading projects from my old computer, but it says “media offline”, and when I try to play it, the whole program crashes. Does anyone know why this would be happening? Also, I did not add and extra “codecs” to my previous version (I’m not that computer savvy) and had no plugins or what not. Thank you!

UPDATE: I converted the material I work with to WMV files to see if that helped. I can load them in, but as soon as I click play, Vegas crashes. I can play other videos that were originally WMVS, but if I try to convert clips to WMV that were originally AVI, it crashes.

It sounds like you are missing a codec. Use a tool like MediaInfo or GSpot to open the video file and see what codec is uses. Then download that codec (and only that codec) and install it. This should fix your problem.

As JHON ROFRANO suggested you can use media info or GSpot codec to see what codec is used. After using them also, if you are not able to fix AVI files then you can give a try to remo AVI repair software to fix your AVI file. Have a look on it.
