Your help would be greatly appreciated on this one as I am keen not to carry out a whole re-edit!

Here’s what happened and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

A few months ago I edited a 40 minute film of a lesson shot on two cameras to tape, with synched up time of day time-code.

I used the multi-cam tool in FCP to edit the film and have broken it up into about eight different sequences full of multi-sequence edits.

Last week my external hard drive housing the capture scratch with all the media for the project failed and I have given up on that drive. As the whole project was on tape I have started to re-ingest the material onto a new external hard drive. But I am not sure of the best way re-capture and then reconnect the media from the projects to the re-ingested material. How can I make sure that the FCP project can properly recognise the re-capture?

The first time around I batch-captured, and the files would have had untitled monikers, but I re-named these clips in FCP with more relevant names such as A1W, A2W, then used these clips as part of my multi-sequence edits.

Any thoughts of how to patch with all together without tearing my hair out!

And what is the key guiding principle when approaching this sort of problem. I have all the media and have done all the edits, I just need to know how to make FCP recognise the same material again.

    Thanks

What you do is open your project, highlight all those clips, an hit batch capture. Then it will recapture and reconnect in one go. Even if you renamed.

If you captured the footage again, making new separate clips, then you cannot reconnect without third party software.
