    We had an intern this summer edit a project, but unbeknownst to us, he captured all the video to an external drive formatted Fat 32, so Final Cut Pro split all the files to accomidate the 4gb file size limit.

    Unfortunately now we are being asked to make some changes to his video now that he’s gone, and FCP will not recognize the split files. My question is, is there any way to re-combine all the split captured video files back into one file that quicktime/fcp will recognize?

    The split files should open in Quicktime or FCP if you open the master clip, which is the one without the number on the end. The numbered files are referenced by the master, and can’t be opened individually.

    If you open the master in Quicktime, you can “Save as…” and select “self-contained movie” to output a single file that contains all the split files.
