December 13, 2010 at 3:14 pmHi John,
I have to ask – what is the length of the video program? Curious, because in the past I’ve seen people using DL when they could’ve got by with single layer by just changing the data rate, simplifying the whole process and saving some money as well.

December 13, 2010 at 3:49 pmHi John,
That seems like a good application for DL! Had to ask, because I see folks asking about DL when the program is only 90 minutes. While I have gone as long as 160 minutes on a 4.7GB DVD, it certainly depends on the content. A static talking head shot can look great at low bit rates, but content with a lot of detail and motion will of course fall apart.

December 13, 2010 at 5:48 pmi talk to myself all the time… don’t worry bout it
so a combination of GearPro and ‘The Layer Break Calculator’ has allowed me to create a DDP file which i couldn’t manage to do before
so…. is that gonna keep the duplicator happy or not?

December 14, 2010 at 12:27 amIs this for duplication or replication? They are different. What did you use to author this disc? You need to add a chapter point somewhere at the mid way point and make sure it non-seamless as well.

December 14, 2010 at 10:08 amthis has come through a customer who is a broker and its for replication, i didn’t author the DVD
this has gone for replication and been rejected due to the break point
and i’m assuming whoever originally did the authoring cant make/fix the break pointi’ve managed to get a DDP file with Gearpro using the ‘layer break calculator’ to get a break point and changing the point in Gearpro settings
do you think that will work?

December 14, 2010 at 11:10 amAs long as Layer 0 is larger than Layer 1 and the break point is set as non-seamless, it should. Not sure how many of these re-authors you’ve done or how experienced you are with the spec but, personally I would have the images verified first through Eclipse /MEI.

December 14, 2010 at 2:07 pmIt sounds OK but there’s no way to give you a definite answer from where Im sitting. Just make sure you get check discs before the final run and play on several players first ….this is definitely not an option.
