Clearly the Adobe stabilize much better the picture but makes to loose much more picture definition.

There’s no question that warp stabilizer in the Adobe package is a far superior product.

Even SmoothCam in FCP Legacy is just OK. It’s awesome when it works, but if fails spectacularly when it doesn’t.

Also, that is some truly challenging footage. Adobe did a great job there.

Yeah, ok… That was pretty clear. I couldn’t stand to watch the FCPX stabilized stuff… made my eyes water.

I think what’s disappointing for me is not so much the stabilization aspect as how ineffective FCPX is in handling rolling shutter, which was supposed to be one of the selling points.

My experience has been that it’s mostly completely useless for rolling shutter (or rather every time I’ve tried it the results were such that it was better not to use it at all) but the stabilization is handy though not markedly better or worse than Smoothcam.

The warp stabilizer is an astonishing thing however – another bit of genuine class from Adobe.

I guess. I think camera manufacturers need to step up and prevent rolling shutter altogether. 🙂

    Yep. S’nice.

Agreed!!!!! It’s a shocker, really. And just try doing any visual effects when you have to cope with rolling shutter – not a pretty picture! And as for 3D motion tracking – forget it. And let’s not forget that the RED uses CMOS as well …

    Oh yeah.

And Alexa, and Phantom, and Sony….and the equivalent large sensor DSLRs

    They are all CMOS.

For anybody interested in comparing rolling shutter artefacts among the various cameras out there, it’s well worth checking out Zacuto’s Great Camera Shoutout 2011:

    https://www.zacuto.com/the-great-camera-shootout-2011/episode-three

Some pretty startling results (as in startlingly not good), even from some of the more expensive cameras.
