Ramp “banding” on monitor
Perhaps this is a known problem with television and gradients, but when I create a ramp in AE 6.5 and preview it on my monitor, there is noticeable “banding” (where you can see strips of different colors). I tried to create a gradient in Photoshop and bring it over, but the same thing happened.
Is this just the way TV is, since it is so low res? On the computer screen it looks fine, of course. The problem is just on the monitor.
I’ve seen commercials on TV where this is done, and I don’t seem to recall seeing any banding, but perhaps I was just distracted by the other things on the screen.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

It’s not the resolution, it’s the bitdepth. If you’re exporting to 8-bit video, you can easily see banding on gradients.
Adding a tiny little bit of noise often removes the banding successfully.
