Hi folks, thanks for your help in advance…when I play a clip in the timeline (after RAM preview), the clip plays back very erratically and a red message appears above the “Time Control” window (in the “Info” window) and says:

    fps: ______ / 29.97 (NOT realtime)

I set it to the maximum memory usage. Closed all other apps. Switched to draft playback. The clips are basic 29.97 QT files (no effects) which play fine in Final Cut Pro. I have 3 GB of RAM on my dual 2GHz G5. I figure that’s plenty of RAM to play a simple clip but maybe I’m wrong?

Thanks, Dave. The article on preview methods was very helpful. But despite trying different settings, the problem remains. I guess I’ll have to live with it for now. Unlike most After Effects applications, it’s tough to evaluate any “speed” or “timewarp” effects without proper playback.
