  • RAM Preview- Cant preview more than 16 seconds?

Well, I searched, but none of the threads gave em a nice answer, so here I go… I have AFX CS3, AMD 64 X2, Integrated Nvidiea 256mb Vid Card.. and well, yesterday I could preview my whole composition just fine…now I was lucky to get 7 seconds, I closed AFX and tried again..no difference. I went to Cache, tweaked it here and there so i can use MAX ram (958 MB) and now I get around 16 secs….any ideas? Comp size is roughly 800 by 400.

    Thanks

Assuming the Work Area is set to the duration you want, look at Windows Task Manager and see how much RAM is being used. If you’re maxing out, you’re stuck. Either reduce the resolution and magnification (and use shift+Ram preview to preview every other frame) or live with shorter preview durations.

Alternately, if you’re using big stills in your comp, make proxies of those stills to use while you’re working. There was a recent COW post on proxies …
