  • RAM getting unusually overloaded

    Hi.

I have a MacBook Pro with 8gb RAM.

Recently while working within AE the RAM has been getting overloaded VERY quickly. I have tried creating some extremely simple compositions and the problem persists. I’ve worked on much more complex jobs in the past without the problem, I have plenty of space on my hard drive, cleared the cache, closed all other programs, ran a memory clean program but it makes no difference.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening all of a sudden and any suggestions on how to fix it?

    Thanks

    Stuart

What do you mean by overloaded?

Are you seeing any slowdowns or errors, or just high RAM usage?

    Hi Walter.

I’m getting a lot of slowdown and very high RAM usage (up to 95%).

Have you changed anything on the system recently? Updated software or third-party effects?

Have you upgraded to Mavericks? Do you have App Nap turned off for Ae? What’s the Activity Monitor memory pressure graph look like during a render?

Yes I have upgraded to Maveriks
App nap is off for AE
The graph stays pretty reasonable but the Memory Used reaches 7.99gb of the 8 available.

The machine then grinds to a halt and doesn’t recover until I run a memory cleaning app.

Try enabling the Reduce Cache Size When System Is Low On Memory preference:

Thanks. I’ll give this a try and keep my fingers crossed.
