My current workflow is primarily DV and BetaSP. We’re budgeting for HD in the next 6 months to a year and are currently leaning towards DVC Pro HD. I have approx. $6000 in this years budget to purchase additional storage. I’ve read lots of good things about Medea and Huge Systems and am intrigued by Granite Digitals SATAVue 8 bay RAID. Our current edit system is a dual 2 GHz G5, 4 GB ram, and 500 GB of media storage. The PCI-X slot is available for either a SCSI or SATA card. Thoughts and experiences with the afore mentioned systems would be much appreciated.

Medea FCR2X is what I run here and have run Medea products for about 8 years now. I’ve never missed a deadline due to a hard drive related failure in that time. And when I do have problems, their tech support is outstanding.

Medeas also hold their speed for much longer than any other arrays I’ve seen. I can run my drives all the way to about 90% full and still get full performance off of them.

Thanks, Walter. Medea was my first choice when I came across the SATA option. I thought it sounded intriguing. I know there will be a bit of a performance hit, but from what I could determine from the specs it looked like it whould do well with a DVC Pro HD, DV and Beta workflow…plus it’s a got a lower $$ per GB ratio. I don’t think I’d consider it for uncompressed HD. I’m hoping someone can chime in who has either used the Granite Digital SATA box or something similar and let us know if met expectations.

We have two SANs from Rorke that just run and run. If it is in your budget, take a look at these guys. Talk to Matt in sales.

These look good…probably a bit out of our budget, but good info to have.

    Thanks.
