One of my internal hard drives died on me recently (luckily I only lost a few songs I hadn’t backed up) and it got me thinking that I should probably replace my other internal drives before they do the same – they’re all around 3 years old.

Here’s what I’m thinking for my new MacPro setup:
Internal slot 1 and 2: 500GB HDs setup as a Raid 1 for my OS and Apps
Internal slot 3: 2TB HD to use as my working drive – will house all documents and footage
Internal slot 4: 2TB HD to use as a Time Machine or CCC backup for the other 2TB HD

Basically I don’t want to have to think about backup my internal drives every night. My only concern is that setting up my system drive as a Raid 1 will slow down it’s performance. Has anyone tried this? Do we know if the slowdown is significant enough to be noticeable if I’m not using it as a footage/documents drive?

    Thanks!
