  R3D, EDL, and AMA

  I’ve been cutting a short film that runs about 30 minutes in duration via the AMA feature in Avid 5.0.3. Why this film wasn’t offlined from the start is a bit of a technical mix up, so now I’m stuck cutting the project with the native R3D files, and the Avid definitely cannot handle hours of native R3D being played back that’s linked via AMA.

  The Avid crashes on a regular basis, and I’m a constant victim of all sorts errors at the moment, including but not limited to std::exception, Bus errors, exports errors (-2034), AMAProducerTask errors, and AStringBuffer TIMEOUT errors.

  Now, I’ve consolidated all of the R3D media files linked to the project via AMA to an internal drive in the machine using DNxHD 36 at a 1/8 debayer.

  With all of the media consolidated and transcoded, is there any way I can relink the new offline DNxHD 36 media to what I currently have in my project, so INSTEAD of using the native R3D media for playback, I can use the DNxHD 36 media for playback?

  I’m aware that the “Relink…” option cannot be used to replace AMA footage with actual transcoded media, so is there a way for me to do this by use of an EDL or AAF? I don’t want to link JUST to the footage in my timeline, I want to link to the entire project’s media.
