  • **Quicktime won’t play DVCPro HD files in Mac Pro – PLEASE HELP!!!!!**

    Hi

I’ve just upgraded to a Mac Pro from a G4, am editing in DVCPro HD (720P60) and have no problems working with source files in FCP 5.0.4 but cannot play the same files in Quicktime. When I attempt to play any DVCPro HD aterial in Quicktime, I get a white screen with audio only playing, anda message saying that the required component is not available and directing me to an apple webpage which does not appear to have any relevant downloads on it.

I have the DVCProHD codec installed in the Library/Quicktime folder, so that’s not the issue. It seems that the problem may be in moving from a PowerPC based mac to an Intel based one.

Apparently the DVCPro HD Codec created by, I believe Panasonic, to work with FCP, only works in PowerPC mode. I have 30 hours of DVCPro HD media which I am cutting with in FCP, and need to be able to export and play in Quicktime as quickly and with as little compression loss as possible.

Any ideas as to how I can achieve this would be most gratefully received.

That version of FCP is not compatible with an Intel-based machine. You need FCP5.1 or later.

You need a newer, Universal Binary version of the Quicktime component(s) in question.. I’m surprised FCP works at all as your post implies.

    5.1.x should do the trick.

    Thanks for all your responses.

I am using Quicktime Pro (7.3)

I have had no problems using FCP 5.0.4 on this system, but will nonetheless upgrade.

The problem is with Quicktime, however. Sam, you say I need a “newer, Universal Binary version of the Quicktime component(s) in question”

Where can I get such a thing from?!

The pro components like DVCPRO HD are available with the pro apps. You need the UB version of the pro apps to get the appropriate QuickTime components.

Depending on the version of the OS yo might be able to revert to an earlier version of QuickTime that will work, but it may not be possible without having the correct version of FCP for that machine.

    All the best,
