You are on the right track, Duke. If you have the codecs, then you are good to go. We don’t need the player; apps like Videolan’s VLC player have taken care of that for a while.

Apple wasn’t spending any time or effort on Quicktime anyway. Over time, Quicktime will fade from the scene. As long as we have the codecs, we’re good for legacy playback and encoding.

    System:
    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
    Win 7 64-bit
    32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2014 (as of 7/2015)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from HD MP4 and P2 MXF.

[Duke Sweden] “Isn’t Quicktime a required plugin for Premiere Pro? Will Adobe add it as an included plugin?”

“QuickTime” usually refers to one of three things in conversation: 1) a multimedia framework for developers, 2) a movie player, and 3) a movie file format. Apple discontinuing affects 1 and 2, but not 3. It’s possible to read QuickTime files without Apple QuickTime, though some important codecs like ProRes are proprietary to Apple.

Adobe supports some QuickTime codecs natively with MediaCore, without needing QuickTime installed. Details here:
