Quicktime: Mac/Windows problem….
I have some *.MOV (Quicktime) videos which I need to be able to open. They were ripped from a Cannon AHX1 by a Mac using Final Cu Pro. I copied them over to a Windows computer, and the really odd thing is: some of them I can get to play but most of them not.
I need to be able to open them and edit them with Adobe Premier CS3. That being said, I’ve tried just being able to view them with everything including the Quicktime Player, Media Player Classic, and Windows Media Player.
I even tried using the program GSpot (You can usually open a movie with it and it will tell you which codecs are needed or used) But I didn’t get any assistance from it this time. What should I do?

I”m not exactly sure what kind of camera you mentioned actually is, but I’m going to guess that it is HDV. If so, I think you have a problem. The Apple HDV codec is propietary and not included (to my knowledge) in the Quicktime codecs that are included with the player. The fact that you can play even some of them is pretty surprising.
The only thing I could suggest is to try VLC player https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
and see if you can get some more info about what your codec actually is. -
Thanks! You’re right! The VLC player does work. Doesn’t help with the editing, but at least I understand more about the problem now. Knowledge is the first step to power.
