Quicktime issues in AE, deadline looms…halp!
So, I’ve been using Mavericks for about a month or so, with no issues at all in my AE workflow. I work primarily in AE, and so far so good. Until today.
My MacPro would not recognize a particular mp4 file, nor would AE, Encoder, QT7 Pro nor the latest QT. Had my client re-output to h264, still no dice. They have no issue seeing this file on a similar MacPro, although it is still on Mt Lion (possibly just Lion). Tried booting into Mt Lion, but I got the same error message that the file was unreadable or unsupported. I had my client send me all their QT codecs, which I installed on my mac. Still no dice, with the added bonus of QT 7 now being broken (and of course I didn’t back up my original QT codecs folder).
I ran Disk utility on my system & application SSD, and noticed there were quite a few permissions issues relating to h264 components, as well as other stuff. Fixed those. Repeated this process a few times.
Go back into After Effects. The bad file is still bad, both in AE & QT. In addition to this, another file that had worked fine up until now no longer is recognized by After Effects nor Encoder, but WILL be seen by QT. Get Info shows it as Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ), Linear PCM Timecode. Get Info on the original problem file gives little to no info.
So……what can I do to get QT and AE’s ability to see files resolved? Any help is greatly appreciated! I am not overly technical, but should be able to muddle through clear advice. Thanks!
