720×576 is always 4×3, it’s just pixels are arranged in a way that allows easy stretching to 16×9 on appropriate monitors. Is the current timeline setup as an anamorphic timeline?

You can always bring the resulting QT in to FCP and click the anamorphic flag if it isn’t clicked already which will signify an anamorphic file.

Also, when making an MXF of this, you should be able to set the flag there as well.
