  • Quicktime import problems in Premiere Pro 1.5

    Hi all,

I’m a graphics designer, and I have a client who’s having tremendous problems importing my delivered Quicktime MOV files onto Premiere Pro 1.5.

Initially we believed the problem to be framerate (until last month I was delivering elements in 60FPS.) That doesn’t seem to be the problem, however, as he is having the same problem with the NTSC standard framerate now (29.97FPS.) I’m doing everything I can now to try and get some help for them, as it has quickly become frustrating for both sides.

Some quick facts, as far as I know:

    – The client’s copy of Premiere Pro 1.5 is running on Windows XP. However, he has the latest edition of Quicktime Pro installed on the workstation as well.
    – I am delivering elements in Quicktime’s Animation codec.
    – The MOV files *will* import just fine in the regular edition of Adobe Premiere, 6.5, regardless of the framerate.
    – I do not know whether the files are attempted to be imported one at a time, or if multiple files are trying to be imported at once.
    – I personally do not use Premiere in any form, so please excuse me if my terminology is mixed up!

    The gist of the problem:

My client attempts to import the delivered MOV files into his project window in Premiere Pro 1.5. The dialog box does recognize and show the MOV files. However, when the client hits the Open (or Import?) button from the Explorer window, the files will not show up in the project window. Any other format (AVI, MPG) will import correctly…for some reason the Quicktime format will not.

Can anyone offer some help so A) I can get my clients out of this situation relatively quickly, and B) So I can continue to send them work in the Quicktime format? (Doing television graphics…AVI and MPG compression just don’t cut it for me.)

    Many thanks in advance.

The only problem I have noticed with .mov files is than conforming audio takes a long time. If the QT player was installed after Pro’s installation, I would try reinstalling Pro.

Unless that sequence of events has been attempted in reverse (QT reinstallation then Pro reinstallation) I believe that has already been tried. :-\
