What version of Vegas are you using?

    Do you have QuickTime installed?

You can’t render a Vegas file. A Vegas file is the Project file. You render Events on the Vegas Timeline.

When you go to “Render as” what options do you see in the drop down Menu?

If you have VP9 installed, do you see QT as an option in that?

    Grazie

[Graham Bernard] “When you go to “Render as” what options do you see in the drop down Menu?”

Yea, it should look something like this:

Do you see QuickTime as Graham said?

John, I’ve been trying to find why Vegas will not export quicktime on my computer. I am using Vegas in Parallels on my mac dual core 2.64 ghz. I have quicktime Pro installed, also quicktime 10. Whenever I export to Quicktime, it performs it in a couple seconds, and in fact no .mov file was created, just a sony .sfl reference file. I suspect that it has to do with the QT version vegas can work with but do not know how to rectify.

I am wanting to export left and right streams from stereo 3D Sony TD10 footage, and the only solution so far is render as AVI (I do one channel, L or R, at a time). Even uncompressed, i am not impressed with the video quality. This isn ultimately for ingestion into Final Cut pro.

    Thanks for any thoughts…

Marten, whenever someone says “it performs it in a couple second”, that tells me that they have a very small loop region selected on the timeline and “render loop region” selected in the render options.
Select the entire timeline or disable this option and try it again.

    Thanks Mike,

I know what you mean but alas that is not the case here. What happens is that the render process begins as with other codecs (eg AVI) but finishes, states “completed”, without actually having created a video file. If i switch the codec for the same timeline render to AVI it will work fine. Something to do with the QT codec I think, but what?

    Thanks for your thought though.

well I updated to vegas build 295, quicktime export now actually does something, but the exported quicktime file is completely black, no matter what setting I use. I have installed latest qt in windows for vegas and in mac for playback (my goal is to edit Sony TD10 footage in mac environment).

Very frustrating! I just want to work with the footage off this camera without going through more than one transcoding! Any ideas out there why exported qt files are black? same playback result on windows or pc.
