I received a .MPG clip – a TV commercial – from another editor, and when I open it with Quicktime, the Inspector says it is 29.97 fps MPEG2 MUXED. This should be correct, as this is what they say they delivered.

FCP, however, is calling it 30.00 fps.

    Which one is correct?

A few details: the clip was generated by Premiere Pro (unknown version) and I am opening it in FCP7.

Anyone seen this type of anomaly before?

Yes this anomaly is common and usually FCP is correct.

    30fps is 29.97. All frame rates aren’t exact, i.e. 24fps is really 23.97

    Thanks for your reply.

Does this mean that the clip is probably not drop frame?

I need the clip to be drop frame for broadcast.

I was contemplating exporting it from FCP as 29.97 – would this cure the anomaly?
