    I’m not eager to be the guinea pig, but I suppose I could always roll back to 7.3 if there are issues. I’ll have full report in the morning (;

    Still Missing Codecs

I tried the QT 7.4.1 update on a mac power pc laptop (10.4.11) I use for testing, it rendered fine in about 30 minutes. No problem. However the choices of codecs are still limited. I won’t be updating my Mac Pro until I find out why.

    Missing codecs:

    BMP
    Cinepak
    Component Video
    Graphics
    H.261
    H.263
    Motion JPEG A
    Motion JPEG B
    Planar RGB
    Sorenson Video
    Sorenson Video3
    TGA
    TIFF
    Video

    Missing Codecs . . .

“make sure “show legacy encoders” is checked”

    Ahhhhhh! Thanks Bequinta!

I still think I’ll wait a few days before I upgrade my Mac Pro though. Once bitten, twice shy.

    Thanks again.

Have you tried going into System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Advanced and checking the box marked “Show legacy encoders”?

Ahhhhhh! That did it. All set. Thank you Steve Boultbee & Bequinta!

(I responded earlier but Bequinta’s answer & my response didn’t show up in the thread.)

[Dave LaRonde] “If all they’ve done is to make security improvements so you can download movies from iTunes, you have to ask yourself how desparately you actually need to do that. My guess is you don’t, so you shouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot pole.”

They weren’t very specific about what they did in the update text, basically it said “improved security and improved compatibility with 3rd party applications” (my emphasis).

That, combined with the report of 7.4.1 playing nice with AE, combined with my renders not failing after installing it leads me to believe that it is a worthwhile update… Of course, I haven’t done any 3 hour renders yet (just a couple 20 minute ones).

I had problems with flip4mac when I downloaded 7.4 – any word on if this issue has been fixed?
