  • QuickTime 7 with FCP 4.5 ?

Posted by Marco D. on February 7, 2006 at 2:59 am

I’ve posted about this subject before, and decided to move back from QuickTime 7 to 6.5.2 for stability reasons. We use the following configuration:

    – OS 10.3.9
    – FCP 4.5
    – QT 6.5.2

All was good until recently, where almost all footage created with/for QT 7 is impossible to view using 6.5.2.

Is it safe (and wise) to move to QT 7.0.4 with FCP HD (4.5) ?

Is there any (safe) way to install another version of QuickTime but keeping 6.5.2 to work with FCP 4.5 ?

Basically, we have a very stable production system, and I’d like to keep it this way.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

FCP 4.5 works best with 10.3.8 and QT 6.5.2. Save QT7 for FCP. Quicktime went through some overhauling in the point release and mixing and matching different versions of quicktime, i found, is problematic. Once I converted everything to FCP5 and qt7, all was well and haven’t looked back since. this happened months and months ago.

i noticed that if you digitize dual mono or stereo in qt7 and then try and bring that into fcp4.5 and qt6.x it would change it to one track of mono.
