    hello,

A very simple question I hope is not too anooying.

I’m trying to multicam edit a three camera show that we shot on DVCPro50/16:9/30p. The system I’m editing on for this project is a PowerMac G5 with 2 2GHz CPU and 1gig of Ram Memory. I captured the material off a Panasonic deck via firewire onto a Maxtor 7200rpm firewire hardrive.

My basic question is … Is my system too slow to conduct this multicam edit? Everytime I press play on the clip viewer canvas I get about 7 seconds of video and then it stalls and slows the whole computer down to a hault for a minute or two. I’ve gone in and set the video playback as low as possible.

Where is there a step by step tuturial on how to do this in FCP5 online? Don’t have access to the manual today.

    Thanks

    Chris

It’s not the CPU. It’s the bottleneck of FW.

You’re basically trying to cram three video files through one firewire bus. If that’s not a recipe for throughput problems, I don’t know what is.

Try installing another internal SATA drive in your G5 to use as a media drive. You have the slot in that G5, may as well use it!

Use the Help Menu and search for multicam. It’s the same as the hard copy manuals.
