    Help guys. (In a rush)

I’m trying to compress a FCP timeline to MPEG2 for a cable system upload. I’m using a FCP-Export (Reference) file. Import into Compressor, use the MPEG2 preset, changed it to their video specs. They say the video is fine, but the audio is muffled and compressed?

Do you guys have any suggestions on setting for the audio? Compressor doesn’t give many options. Only Peak limiter and Dynamic Range. I left them at their presets.

    Thanks in advance.

I’d think you want to finish your audio in FCP or Soundtrack Pro, and if needed, use the filters there first. Then your compressed audio should sound much the same.

I am finishing in FCP. It’s a very simple soundtrack V/O and a music bed. Couldn’t be simplier. It sounds great in FCP. (I have a very high-end audio system (VTL Tube amps, Tannoy DMT-12″ pro studio monitors)

I even checked the MPEG 2 file after Compressor and it sounds fine. Not sure what the heck the kids at Comcast are hearing that they say it sounds compressed?

Do you guys change any of the Compressor settings when encoding for MPG2 Program Stream?

    I’m baffled.

    Arnie,
Compressor do not offer options for the MP2 Audio. I think that it sticks with the old standard 224Kbps.
You may try to make the .m2v in Compressor and then “BitVice Helper” or “ffmgx” to make the MP2 and mux video and audio.
You can rise the audio data rate with those applications.
