    Hi Guys,

Very quick question – I’m editing windows AVI in Vegas and I output my sequence to burn on DVD by:

    – rendering out he sequence as MPEG2 format (using Best quality setting similar to Apple’s compressor).

    – Import MPEG2 file into Nero, then burn to DVD.

The export to MPEG2 takes 3x the length of the sequence to render out.

I was wondering if any of you have a more efficient way to do this using these two programs and not compromising quality? I should point out I like NERO because of (A) it’s ability to create automatic chapter marks and (B) burn an auto-launch DVD (no menu). If any of you think I can bypass Nero to burn a DVD, those two functions in Vegas I’d appreciate you guiding me through that.

    thanks in advance.

    Rick

[Rick Neely] “- rendering out he sequence as MPEG2 format (using Best quality setting similar to Apple’s compressor).”

There is no reason to use “Best” quality unless you have high resolution still images that you are resizing. Otherwise it significantly increases render times (as you have seen) with no appreciable increase in quality. “Good” is the default for a reason. This is what most people should be using. My MPEG2 renders are usually 1/2 my project length or 2x speed (e.g, a 1 hr HD project takes about 30 minutes to render to MPEG2).
