    Hi everybody,

I have previously used Avid (MCXpress/DV Xpress) and was using FCP 7 but now Apple seem to of committed suicide (in terms of pro video) am thinking of returning to the fold.

I am currently editing projects at home (some paid jobs some personal) and will be starting a MA in Media Culture and Practice in September. What I am wondering is to what extend I will be able to finish corporate/web/university jobs using MC alone. I realize for broadcast and film finishing will be done elsewhere but can I deliver corporate/web jobs usibg MC alone?

Tha alternative would be Premier CS 5.5 as this has a full toolset but I would really like MC to be the answer.

    Ben

Yes, there are many people that have been doing this for years and years – even with Xpress DV; Is there a specific concern/need that you don’t think that MC in some way performs?

Thanks for that. I did use DV Xpress and have used Sony Vegas and FCP 7. What I am particularly interested in are:

    1) Color Correction
    2) Grading
    3) Audio, Vegas blows almost everything out of the water in this respect, has MC progressed much since DV Xpress?
    4) DSLR footage workflow/realtime performance.

    Regards,
    Ben

    1) Color correction – HSL and/or Curves. With Naturalmatch.
    Secondaries via 3rd party (BCC)
    2) I’m assuming you mean color correction?
    3) Vegas is still very powerful. MC still is frustrating along these lines – although track based RTAS are powerful for elements like compression. I’ve been debating getting head deep in Protools or just using Adobe Audition.
    4) It works okay (it works okay in almost anything except FCP7) – but lots of it is dependent on your CPU.
