  • Questions for John Rofrano abt a couple of his tutorials

Posted by Ron Whitaker on June 30, 2013 at 8:09 pm

I just viewed a couple of John Rofrano’s excellent tutorials on his website.

    The ones I viewed were

    1) Avid DNxHD Template for Vegas Pro, and

    2) Multichannel Render Template in Vegas Pro

One question I have is: what is the advantage, if any, of having a project that contains multiple audio channels? Will the sound actually be superior in any way in the final render?

Also, it looks like if you decide to have multiple audio channels, and you want to render with multi channels, you’re going to have to do so using the Quicktime container. Is that correct? Do the other containers/codecs allow that?

And is the Avid DNxHD codec the best to use in such a case?

[Ron Whitaker] “One question I have is: what is the advantage, if any, of having a project that contains multiple audio channels? Will the sound actually be superior in any way in the final render?”

It has nothing to do with sound quality. You would want multiple audio tracks if you were delivering your programming dialog in multiple languages.

[Ron Whitaker] “Also, it looks like if you decide to have multiple audio channels, and you want to render with multi channels, you’re going to have to do so using the Quicktime container. Is that correct? Do the other containers/codecs allow that?”

You can also deliver multiple audio channels with Sony MXF, Sony MXF HDCAM SR, XDCAM EX, and Video for Windows (AVI).

That depends on who you are delivering it to and if can they ingest Avid DNxHD.
