November 23, 2013 at 1:07 amAlthough I have never used the capability, Douglas Spotted Eagle talked about the ability of the XH-A1 to output (I think) uncompressed video. His comment at the time was that it is available, but you would need a heavy duty raid configuration and computer to keep up with the data stream that the camera produces. I am reasonably sure that he was referring to the camera’s ability to output data via its SDI port. Douglas was so impressed with the camera that he produced a DVD via VASST which attempted to explain all of its capabilities. He may have talked about the uncompressed output on the DVD, but I don’t remember that for sure. I heard him discuss the uncompressed output at a 2 or 3 day seminar which focused on Vegas training.

November 23, 2013 at 1:25 amAfter a some research AND reading my old Canon manual it appears that only the XH-G1 can do that and has a HD-SDI, the A1 doesn’t.

November 23, 2013 at 2:30 amDoes it have a component out? Does your manual say what type of output that has 4:2:2, 4:2:0, etc
As far as speed, a SDD drive will get you the speed you need to capture uncompressed video. Also, depending on the type of computer you have, many BM devices are PCIe cards, Thunderbolt or USB3. They are capable of taking numerous inputs including component.
ALSO, their H.264 Pro Recorder uses a 4:2:2 colorspace and only requires a USB 2 connection. I have used it with good results at our church. It IS compressed to H.264, but has better colorspace and much better quality than HDV….Hope this helps…

November 24, 2013 at 1:04 pmIn the end, nothing beats simply getting a high end camera
for higher quality output.
