Question regarding audio volume when recording.
Hey everyone,
My boss purchased this program for me and I’m trying to get the hang of it. I have a question regarding the audio. For example I record gameplays from games and I make commentaries.
The game volume is at 0.0 db which is default and I put my recording at 12 db which sometimes its hard to hear me still. So my question is there a way to lower the volume of the game while I’m done then somehow have the volume of the game come back up once I’m done recording my commentary?
Any help id greatly appreciate it.

This is called ducking. There are programs that will do this for you automatically in post (after the recording is finished but before the production leaves the Vegas timeline). One such program is UltimateS pro from Vasst.com.
Another way to do it is to add a volume envelope to your game audio and double click the line where you want to place a node and then double click again a little to the right of that node and make another one. Then you can click and drag it down to lower the audio. Add to more nodes where you want the audio to come back up and do the same thing but on the second one drag it back up to the original audio level.
It also helps to slightly pan your voice over (VO) to the left or right speaker (I prefer left) when doing VO’s as it helps it stand out just a tad bit more. You will find both of these (volume and pan) if you right click audio event/clip on the timeline if memory serves me correctly. If not, they are both noted in the help file.

Thank you so much for your response. I’m pretty new with Sony Vegas Pro so I’m going to have to figure this out. Do you know of a tutorial I can follow?

Be sure to look at the help menu as it can walk you through the mechanics. If you choose to get UltimateS pro from Vasst.com there are free tutorials that you can view that correspond with the features.
There is the Vegas Training from Vasst.com, The training from Sony Creative Software and the newsletters from jetdv.com that are all beneficial.
With that being said, I don’t know of a specific tutorial on this for Vegas.
