    Hi
I am following the Audio_Waveform podcast tutorial. Is there a way of getting text to appear instead of just a line so I could play a song and the text would appear as this song gets louder. Do you understand what I mean.

Please help, it is for a friends website.
    Thanks

Hi there, I think that this is the same post as over at the flash forum. A quick idea would be to make the text as outlines in illustrator and then bring it into AE.. just copy and paste. Then use write on or I can’t quite remember which effect and animate it with that.

    Just a quick thought.

    Hi
How would I get that to animate with the music?

I was hoping someone a lot smarter at AE would respond by now… but. Stroke was one of the filters I was thinking about too. In the past this sort of thing was done with motion math(ick). I think I remember you saying you didn’t want to use a plugin but I think that trapcode has a nice plugin that will generate keyframes from music.

I know I’m not helping much but here’s what I’d do if I didn’t want to buy the plugin. Search the COW archives, search tutorial websites… I do remember Steve Holmes doing something like this with a line in the total training videos but those weren’t free.

Head on over to the AE expressions page and maybe someone like Dan Ebberts or Aahron will respond. I’m by no means an AE guru. Just wouuld like to be.

That’s about all I can say unless I tried to do it myself.

Also, there are many tuts on creating equalizer type animations… how about customizing one of those?

    cheers,
    Paul

Another possibility is to look at Trapcode’s “Sound Keys.” Here’s the link – https://www.trapcode.com/products_soundkeys.html.

I have never used it for line art like what was described but have used it for text and solid layers before. IMO, anything from Trapcode is worth having in your toolkit.

    Hi
I already do have Trapcode plugins. I have soundkeys, 3D stroke, Shine and a few others.

Could I do it with soundkeys, how would I do it?

All I need is instead of the line reacting to the music I need the text. But the text needs to be made out of the line. Do I make any sense?

    Homers,

To be honest, the more and more I thought about your task the more I kept coming back to Sound Keys or an Expression using the stroke, paths and sound keys. I would take a look at Dan Ebberts site (Click on his head in the home page of the forum) here or post the same thread in the After Effects Expressions forum. You need to control this item over time by scaling and moving to the music. I really think an expression is your best bet.

    Any other opinions out there?
