Question: Firewire out of DSR-570 into FCP not from tape playback
I was wondering if anyone had experience recording the output of the camera
directly into FCP via firewire, and if there was a way to get the same timecode
that the camera’s deck would be recording, into FCP at the same time?As I recall, if I want to record from a firewire camera realtime, I hit
“capture now” and have to have it set for “uncontrollable deck”
which means no timecode. I was just wondering if when the DSR 570 deck
was recording, would that give me timecode out as well, via firewire,
and not have to set FCP to “uncontrollable deck”?Thanks,

Hi forum friends,
I have filmed more than 100 mini DV tapes for a long form documentary that i am working on. I have shot the material using Panasonic DVX 100a.
I have to start editing the material on a G5 using final cut pro 4.5. Wish to know from the forum if there is any quality difference, if one were to use a consumer mini Dv camera to digitise the footage, i have the option of using DSR-45, DSR-11 but will have to spend a lot of money hiring one. Any suggestions, seeking your help.

No difference if you go in via firewire. You really aren’t digitizing.
You are just transferring a data file. That’s the beauty of DV.Dan

Thanks so much for answering my query. Please allow me to make some more clarification- I read in one of the postings that while digitising an entire tape of 60 minutes there is a chance of the sound drifting out of sync. Further I wish to know if there is absolutely no loss of audio or video quality. I do take your file transfer point the good feature about DV. Thanks again for giving me your time.
