  • Question: Changing a static composition (image) into its identical .ai file?

Posted by Chris Lander on August 2, 2015 at 11:13 pm

When I imported my .ai file, I began using the accompanied Composition in my workflow rather than the layers of .ai work.

Since I have applied transformations and effects to the Compostion, how can I substitute the actual ai files into its place so that the same effects will apply?

The ai file and the composition file are THE SAME static IMAGE. I just don’t want to have to lengthen the Composition’s duration in the composition settings dialogue box every time I want to change its duration. Can I sub in the Ai artwork as the new source?

This tut will sort you out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7oWTX0f3lQ

Basically select both layers, hold “alt” and drag new layer over the old layer. NOT sure if it works with compositions though. May have to copy/paste effects if it doesn’t.
