Question about transitions

i can think of two quick ways to do this, but there might be more…

WIPE: the quickest would probably be with a built-in wipe transition. line up the clips, one on top of the other, and starting on the same identical frame. scoot the in-point of the top clip to the right (without moving the entire clip lest you take them out of sync with each other), drag that clip down to be on the same track as the lower one. at this point you should have only one track active, and if you watch it, the video will suddenly jump to/from one color balance to the other, but the timing/sync should be perfect. now just put any transition you want on the point where they join. drag the length of the transition to whatever you want it to be, and it should be what you are looking for.

ANIMATED CROP: this way would give you more control on the timing of the transition. start like above, but keep the two clips on two adjacent tracks. animate the crop settings of the top one. i.e., keyframe the left crop setting at it’s original starting point, then figure out where on the timeline you want the “transition” to stop (you might like the transition to stop halfway through so you can more easily compare the two shots, then maybe continue on across the screen to completely reveal the bottom shot). just do that with you keyframes on your left crop setting (or right, or top or bottom depending on how you want to reveal the bottom shot).

cool, glad i could help. did you try the animated crop idea? it will give you much more control, and is very easy to do.
